Stellarium planetarium software4/17/2023 ![]() There's a whole lot more available with this software, most of which I have only begun to explore. I tend to use this one to do more comprehensive guide star selection, framing, etc. ![]() Through time it's become easier to use in part due to its improvements but also my slow motion up the learning curve. I also like the ability to frame for a particular camera, sensor, reducer, etc.ĬdC is much more comprehensive and much easier to connect to the scope (mount) for giving slew commands. Note: The school computers already have this software installed. Materials: Computer with Stellarium installed. SGP will take clipboard data from Stellarium, which is a handy feature for adding targets and their J2000 coordinates. Va Cha AST 101 Lab 3: Stellarium Lab Purpose: To learn what planetarium software can do and to use it to better understand the motions of the night sky. What I find it good for is planning out an imaging session and watching where my targets will be vs. In fact, I haven't tried that now in several years. I find Stellarium to be easier to use and certainly "prettier", however I have also found it difficult to connect it to my mount for slewing. ![]() I'll chime in to say that I use Stellarium and CdC as well, however know that I am not at all versed in the other options. ![]()
